The only forgiveness you’ll ever need is you forgiving yourself.
There is only you. Everyone else is a secondary player in your life, either catalytic teachers guiding you towards soul evolution or simply mirrors of what’s always been inside of you that needs to be brought to awareness.
And if this paragraph has already triggered you, “No, there are genuinely people in my life who hurt me, betrayed me and treated me unfairly,” then my next statement is going to trigger you a little more…
You are stuck in your victim story.
And I say this with all of my love and compassion.
Because yes, people hurt you. Yes, people betrayed you. Yes, perhaps you deserved better. Nobody is asking you to pretend otherwise. But how long are you going to make someone else the main character of your story by continuing to carry what they did to you?
Your soul mapped this blueprint long before you came into this world. You commissioned souls to play villains and compassionate teachers, allies and enemies, lovers and heartbreakers. Some came to hold your hand and some came to break your heart wide open.
That’s why sometimes family plays the catalytic role of teachers… and not always the nice ones. That’s why you recognize certain people almost instantly. That’s why signs and synchronicities seem to appear everywhere and you think, “This is the one.” Your soul recognizes them… but recognition doesn’t always mean happily ever after. Sometimes your soul recognizes the person because they are the doorway to the lesson.
And sometimes that doorway leads straight through hell.
Unfortunately, when it does, we begin doubting ourselves. We question our intuition, the signs, God, the Universe, divine guidance… How could something that felt so right turn out so painfully wrong?
But what if it didn’t go wrong?
What if you are exactly where you need to be?
There are no coincidences. Everything in your life is unfolding according to a perfect plan. Your soul’s plan.
The people who hurt you are also souls on a journey who, perhaps, you contracted to play catalysts in yours. And when you finally realize this, you also realize how much time you spent in victimhood… feeling sorry for yourself, blaming them, replaying what happened, waiting for apologies, closure, acknowledgment, justice.
Meanwhile your life is waiting for you to come back to it.
Because the person who needs your forgiveness was never them.
It was you.
The you who didn’t know any better. The you who ignored what you now recognize as obvious. The you who stayed. The you who begged. The you who abandoned yourself to keep someone else comfortable.
That version of you needs your compassion, not your punishment.
Until you forgive yourself for not knowing then what you know now, you will continue replaying the story, just with different characters. You will project old pain onto new people and call it protection. You will protect yourself from something that is no longer happening. You will keep looking backward while wondering why life isn’t moving forward.
The perpetrator may never know the weight of their actions because if they possessed the awareness required to truly understand what they were doing, perhaps they wouldn’t have done it in the first place.
So why are you waiting for their consciousness to set you free?
Accept your curriculum.
Stop arguing with the lesson because you didn’t like the teacher.
Take what was meant to awaken you and leave the rest behind. Know that everything can be used for your evolution, even the chapters you would have never consciously chosen.
And try to walk through it with as much grace as you possibly can.
You will fall short. You will miss signs. You will choose people who hurt you. You will know better and occasionally still not do better.
And when you do… Forgive yourself without unnecessary judgment. Instead, ask to be shown the way. Then keep walking in faith.
Yours in self-forgiveness.
